There is so much hype about burnout these days. It’s a popular complaint: perhaps too popular. One person adds their complaint to the other person’s and now it’s a shared “thing”. Then, it grows like a weed.
I think it’s adding to the divisive miasma among those who subscribe to the mainstream. It makes people easy to manipulate.
What if the popular statement was “I’m doing well!”?
Do you think it would get as much media attention?
Do you think people would be as angry, make poor decisions, or fall prey to an insidious attack on their lifestyles if doing well was popular?
You’re right, it wouldn’t get any media attention and people wouldn’t be angry & vulnerable. But they would feel better!
I’m in favor of feeling better, doing better & being better. Physically, emotionally, and financially.
Let’s cut that cycle of burnout! Here are some suggestions for doing that:
⦁ Decide to un-do burnout.
⦁ Identify your stressors.
⦁ Fix your stressors. For example, too much to do? Just say NO. And, as the song says “there are 50 ways to leave your lover”… there are also 50 ways to say no. Keep it simple & truthful, always beginning with ‘No’:
⦁ No, I won’t …
⦁ No, thank you for asking …
⦁ No, I’m not the expert at that…
⦁ Opt out of your boss’s baloney. Do you have an ABB (Abusive Butthole Boss)? Learn to opt out. Be professional, creative, and polite, but opt out all the same.
⦁ Email me for 50 FREE tips to deal with the ABB! They’re hilarious… Just say “Send me the 50 tips” and I’ll know what to send. Cuz I probably can’t publish them on-line…lol.
⦁ Fix your job.
⦁ If you can’t fix your job, then fix your attitude and response to your ABB & job.
⦁ If you cannot fix the job attitude or your reaction to the job stress, don’t create ‘money’s too tight’ stress: have a plan before you quit.
⦁ Say yes! To Stress-reducing activities:
⦁ Yes, let’s go for a walk! No headphones allowed? Double yes!
⦁ Yes, let’s cook a healthful meal together
⦁ Yes, let’s check the B word and balance our budget
⦁ Yes, let’s go to bed early
⦁ Yes, let’s be grateful for what we have
⦁ Yes, let’s have fun
⦁ Yes, let’s take a vacation from news, social media, and phones after 8 pm.
⦁ Yes, to spirituality and faith
⦁ Yes, to water with lemon instead of sugary drinks
⦁ Say Phooey! To drama queens and toxic personalities. See ya later!
⦁ Make your own decisions and take responsibility for the outcomes.
Bye-bye burnout and hello life! I’m doing well!
Sing a cheerful song and move along.
