Your job is a stress-filled quagmire with a boss from the depths of hades… or
Your landlord is a perv who pops in to check on you without your consent, or warning… or
Your roommates are running with a bad crowd and you want to get a place of your own.
Should you stay or should you go?
For your peace of mind, safety, and future development you will likely leave.
But FIRST, have you considered looking at your finances before you leap out of that unpleasantness?
I was talking to a friend recently and we were discussing the plight of the majority of people in America – 70% of US millennials and 63% of all US adults – who live paycheck to paycheck.
They’d be stuck in a crappy situation because they wouldn’t have the resources to leave.
So I popped off with a list (dontcha love it?) of what people need so they can take the pathway to freedom and say “Forget You!”
Here’s what I came up with:
- Savings of at least three months of rent (first, last and security deposit)
- One empty, or 0 balance, credit card for back-up
- A 740+ credit score to ensure speedy lease approval, great deals, and a new job
- A job or steady income
- Determination to go forth and live better
What else should we add to the list?
If you have these 5 things you are not trapped.
You are not vulnerable to predatory lending.
You are not vulnerable to abusive “Authority” figures.
You have choices those without resources do not have.
The next time you’re feeling squeezed, trapped, or ready to walk away, look at ways to push the tension-release button.
If you need help – it’s not a weakness to ask.
Seek what you need so that you can be your best self.
Let’s all connect and rise above the status quo.
Are you in?
